If you find yourself struggling with either anxiety or depression, you might be happy to know that yoga can help!  LifeForce® Yoga was developed by Amy Weintraub, author of the book "Yoga for Depression." In addition to yoga postures, this method uses breathing techniques, guided visualizations and affirmations, tones and gestures that regulate the emotions and balance and clear the chakras.  The workshop is suited to practitioners of all levels of yoga experience.

Yoga for Pelvic Health
Saturday, October 22, 2011

1:00-3:00pm
Bloom Yoga Studio
(Information about fees to follow, or check Bloom's Website)

If you’re dealing with lower back issues, having to leave your fitness class or wake up multiple times at night to go to the bathroom, or feeling spacey and out of control of your emotions, you may be dealing with a lack of strength and stability in your pelvis and lower chakras.  The pelvic floor supports everything above it, and the pelvis is the location of the 1st and 2nd chakras, which form the base for our sense of safety in the world and our emotional stability & creativity.  This workshop will give you tools to develop awareness, muscular strength and stability in the pelvis, pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles and to stabilize and strengthen the lower chakras.

Class Descriptions

Beginning Class - This class is ideal for people who have limited yoga experience, or none at all. Basics of alignment are taught from a mindful perspective - i.e. learning to practice yoga poses in your body; and learning to listen to your body and assess your strengths and challenges. This class also focuses on recognizing the mental/emotional effects of yoga poses. Oh yes, and learning not to take ourselves too seriously to have fun!

Open Class - This class is geared toward the level of the participants.  My teaching style is friendly and supportive.  I think it's important for students to feel comfortable and capable, so I offer explanations for each pose and adjustments based on your level of ability.  There's never any need to feel embarassed if you're a newbie.  My motto is "start where you are." Each series may be working on a specific theme.

Restorative Yoga
- Restorative Yoga is a gently healing form of yoga.  Classes incorporate breathing techniques for relieving stress, meditation, and supported rest poses designed to deeply relax the body.  This class is for anyone needing a more supportive, less strenuous practice or anyone who would like to experience deep relaxation before the start of the work week.

Gentle Yoga - This class is for anyone needing a slower, less strenuous practice or for beginners seeking a gradual introduction to the practice of yoga.  Yoga poses are approached with modifications for any physical limitations.
