Restorative Yoga this weekend!

Do you wish there was a way you could deeply relax and still be doing something good for your body at the same time?  You can do that with Restorative Yoga!  Love Savasana?  How about getting that same quiet feeling - but for an hour

The class starts with gentle (i.e. "easy" yoga stretches) then we progress to relaxing more.  All the poses are supported with blankets or bolsters and last about 5-10 minutes so you can really find that "Ahhh" place.

All levels welcome, so bring a friend!

Letting Go with the Sedona Method

This is a quick synopsis of what I've learned of The Sedona Method.  I've been amazed by my experience of it over the last month and wanted to share it with you.

To get an idea of how it works, first grip a pen really hard.  Notice how after a while the feeling, once intense, becomes familiar.  That's how we hold on to our emotions.  Now just hold it gently in your palm.  Notice that you're still holding it, but with ease.  Now drop it.  Feel that release of letting go?

So, to do the Sedona Method, first notice what you're feeling (or bring to mind a thought that's unpleasant).  Now welcome that feeling (as best you can)?  Just allow it to be.  Now three questions:

1.  Could you let that feeling go?  (Hint, if you dropped the pen you have the capability of letting this go.)

2. Would you let it go? (If the answer is no, then ask yourself - Would I rather keep this unpleasant feeling or be free of it?).

3. When?  (Hint, the time is now :-)

The trick is not to analyze or think too hard about any of this.  Just answer the questions and allow yourself to let go, as best you can.  You can run through these a few times for particularly challenging emotions.

(My understanding of the method from the book The Sedona Method and the CD series on the same topic.)

Thank you!

I learn so much from students and clients and it is such a joy to be of service to you.  Thanks for sharing your lives with me!

It's been a while! Hope your summer has been wonderful.  I've got lots of news to share - some fun workshops, our potluck/meetup starts again, and a new method of releasing emotional "stuff" that I've been working with.  So please be patient with all the words.

I'm also still blogging, but in a new format.  If you check out my blog, let me know what you think!  You can also follow me on Twitter now and get faster updates on new blog postings and workshops. If you know someone who would just love this stuff, please forward this on :-).

Be well!

Letting Go

0077.jpg

I've been blogging recently about letting go, and working personally with the process of releasing the emotional baggage that can accumulate over the years.  In the fall, as the trees are letting go of their leaves, it seems like a good time to take stock of what we've been holding on to that "no longer serves the full expression of life in our bodies and minds."  Letting go in the present is especially helpful to reduce this buildup of emotional residue.

A great example of this happened to me a few months ago on Main Street in Evanston when I had a near-miss with a car that appeared, seemingly out of nowhere from a driveway on the right side.  I was left with my heart still racing, hands shaking and my head pounding. I was scared and also angry, at the other driver and at myself for not being more attentive. But instead of letting the drama continue, I was able to recognize these sensations, relax my body and let go of them, and with them the fear, anger and blame.  Within a few minutes I was back to normal - mentally composed and alert.  In the past, I would have been agitated for a much longer time and unable to concentrate. Thinking back on it now there's no residual emotion.  It's over.

Yoga has known for thousands of years what science is just now discovering.  The body affects the mind and emotions, and vice versa.  We are after all not separate pieces but whole people.  Freedom comes from recognizing how much of our world view is impressions, colored by emotions and fears that house themselves in our bodies and minds. We can support our physical and emotional health by recognizing this connection and by having the courage to look at what we are holding on to now as a whole experience of body and mind.  We can recognize this holding as a choice and make the empowering choice to let it go.  With this release comes freedom.

Upcoming Workshops

Our upcoming workshops will allow you to start working with the body/mind connection in a very simple way. All classes, workshops & meetups are held at Yoga North Park (5507 N. Sawyer, 60625)

Yoga for Low Back and Hips will help you to strengthen lower abdominal muscles to support your pelvis and spine, as well as to increase flexibility (i.e. let go of tension) in the muscles of the hips, the hamstrings and the quads.  Tightness in these muscles also affects spinal health.  In addition to the physical benefits, working with the lower body also engages the 1st and 2nd chakras and increases emotional stability (really!).
Saturday, September 26, 3-5pm, $30.  Register

Our Vision Board Workshop/Experiment will support you in creating a vision of your future in words or pictures so that you can set The Law of Attraction to work in a positive way.  Part of creating the future you envision also involves releasing your resistance - letting go of limiting thoughts that might be hijacking your success.  In our Vision Board workshop, we'll spend some time figuring out what we want, and recognizing & releasing the limiting thoughts that might be preventing us from getting there.

Why "Experiment"?  Because I encourage those who are skeptical to try it (as an experiment) and see if it works for them.  I'd love for us to meet up again in a year and report on what transpired based on your visioning.
Sunday, October 11, 4:30-6:30pm, $25.  Register

Monthly Meetup, Meditation & Potluck

Though the classes at Yoga North Park tend to be informal, there isn't always time to sit and mingle.  We also don't have a chance to really discuss the interesting topics that I bring up at the beginning of class.  So that's the purpose of the meetup.  Come sit, meditate for 1/2hour (or come after meditation - we won't judge you as un-spiritual! LOL!), and then let's eat and chat about the chosen topic - or something else of interest!  It is always a fun time with interesting and friendly people, yummy food and great conversation.

If you haven't meditated before, or you're not 'into' all that stuff, don't be deterred!  Each month features a guided meditation which means someone is talking you through what to do with your mind during that 1/2hour of "meditation."  It's very relaxing and uplifting.

So please join us if you have the inkling (or you're just curious), at 7:15pm for meditation (which starts at 7:30pm) or at 8pm for the potluck.  Bring a dish you enjoy - we're a pretty adventurous bunch.  And yes, we'll eat take-out ;-)  Dessert is welcome too!

 Reconnective Healing & the Reconnection

If you're working with a stubborn physical or emotional challenge, Reconnective Healing might be effective for you.  After my training last year I did a 10 minute session with my mom.  After 10 minutes, she was able to read fine print that previously would have required the use of her glasses.  The Reconnective frequency is amazing.  You're not guaranteed a healing, but you may find that you get healing in a form you didn't even expect.

The session itself is simple, and takes roughly 40 minutes.  I recommend 2-3 sessions for a specific problem.  You can read more about Reconnective Healing at my website.  I do sessions at Yoga North Park, and Ruth Mortenson, who is also part of our yoga community does sessions at Salon Echo (on Bryn Mawr) and on the north shore.  Ruth also works with animals (at the animal's home and has had wonderful results).  You can reach Ruth at 773-275-4557, and you know where to find me! ;-)

The Reconnection is a separate process that re-aligns you with your life purpose by restoring your connection to the meridian system of the Universe.  It is 2 sessions within 3 days.   You can read more about The Reconnection at my website.

 Akashic Records

The Akashic Records are the records of your soul's entire existence.  When you have a reading, you tap into the vast storehouse of knowledge that exists beyond our physical perception.  The Records are particularly helpful in helping you to live your soul’s purpose.

I’m offering readings for $70 now.  If you’re interested or just curious to find out more, call me at 773-531-8513 or email me to set up an appointment.
